Picking a signature fragrance can be tricky. A perfume should capture the essence of a person, communicating personality and even fashion sense in one quick sniff. Selecting a celebrity-endorsed fragrance signifies taste in music and movies, while a designer brand perfume will likely pair well with your trendy outfit. And then there is simple human chemistry. Who are you looking to attract with your scent?
In order to control the message you’re sending with every spray of perfume, you must create the scent yourself. And now you can dabble in the world of handcrafted fragrance at Tijon in La Jolla.
Tijon is a luxury parfumerie and boutique now open on Herschel Ave. in La Jolla. Within the sleek retail space, you can browse natural skincare products, sample hundreds of scented oils, and craft your own custom fragrance in the perfume workshop. If you prefer the pros do the work, choose from 18 of Tijon’s perfumes and colognes which are known as “The Fragrances of the French Caribbean,” made with hints of exotic botanicals such as gardenia, jasmine, frangipani, aloe vera, papaya and rosemary.
But the real fun goes down in the workshop. During ‘Make Your Own’ workshop classes, guests can choose from 300+ oils to engineer the perfect scent. But don’t worry, the Tijon pros will walk you through the process. There are three class types offered, Mix & Match, Perfume Class 101 and Private Classes. With prices ranging from $69-$129, you’ll leave class with a bottle of your fragrance, a gift bag of skincare goodies, and a perfume workbook with tips for continuing your new hobby.
Attention gentlemen: If you want to impress this holiday season, book a class at Tijon and create a custom scent for your special someone. Or, book a private session for a memorable date night.
