With 75 degree weather and 75 miles of coastline, San Diego offers 75+ reasons for surfers to rejoice.
The wave-riding industry has found its home here, made obvious by the hoards of surfers seen bobbing around from Oceanside to Mission Beach any day of the week. To celebrate the rich surf culture through the art of film, the inaugural San Diego Surf Film Festival launches May 11-13th at Bird’s Surf Shed. Surf meets cinema in this three day showcase of independent films from around the world.
The Line-Up: Twelve feature films and 25 shorts are scheduled to show, while audiences are joined by an expert panel of surf legends and filmmakers. The festival kicks off with an exclusive VIP night on Thursday, May 10th, featuring a meet-and-greet, food and brews, and the showing of surf hit Innermost Limits of Pure Fun. On Friday, May 11th, Opening Night kicks off at 6pm with music by The Red Fox Tails and proceeds with film showings plus an after party at The Griffin. On Saturday, May 12th, the day begins at 8am with a beach clean-up and bodysurfing demo at La Jolla Shores. Later, films will play back at Bird’s Surf Shed and conclude with an after party at Shaper Studios. Sunday, May 13th brings the final set of films, plus an awards ceremony at 10:30pm.
