A Cardiff art gallery is set to launch an exclusive exhibit of Rob Machado’s photography.
The surf legend is a Cardiff native, and the North County beaches remain close to his heart. Within the collection are photos of Machado’s exotic travels around the world, including his own backyard of San Diego.
The new home for Machado’s photography is Bliss 101, a coastal art gallery and home décor boutique located at the Pacific Station in Encinitas. Bliss is known to support local artists and philanthropic causes, and owner Helen Zeldes has wanted to showcase Machado’s work since the gallery’s opening.
And here’s where you come in; Bliss is hosting an exhibit launch party on May 5 from 6 to 9pm. The party is open to the public, and attendees will be the first to view Machado’s entire collection. It will be a family-friendly occasion, with live music, food, drinks and face painting for the kids. And the answer is yes -- Machado will be there to sign autographs and mingle with the local community.
Machado’s work will be on sale to the public at Bliss. During the launch party, a portion of the proceeds from the photographs will benefit the Rob Machado Foundation, which supports environmental programs focused on helping children understand their contribution towards a healthy earth.
Preview three featured photographs and get the meaning behind the lens from Machado:
Cardiff Sunset: "This is basically the view from my house. I surf out here almost every day when I'm home."
Grasses in Cardiff: "I walk down a little trail to surf Cardiff reef. I was walking up the hill after a surf and the light was amazing, so I ran home and grabbed my camera, found this cool bush, and shot a few photos."
Swamis: "My parents live right up the street from Swamis. It's basically where I learned how to surf and where I surfed for the first part of my surfing life. It will always have a special place in my heart." (not pictured)
