San Diego takes much pride in our top fitness facilities, and we sure love the luxury hotels that provide us with stylish staycations. The merging of the two creates a combination rivaling top resorts and spas, and is now presented as The Westgate Hotel makes room for a new PureFitness Sports Club and Spa Retreat.
The move will boldly construct a premier health, fitness and spa retreat into one of the most iconic fixtures in downtown San Diego. Announced earlier this month, the 37,000 square-foot sports club and spa will occupy a vast majority of the hotel’s retail space between 2nd and 3rd Avenues on Broadway.
Designed by Hollander Design Group, the state-of-the-art facility has all the bases covered, including a cardio deck with over 200 pieces of equipment, circuit training stations, and three separate group exercise rooms offering classes in spinning, yoga and bootcamp. On the expansive roof deck (pictured above), aquatic fitness can be achieved within the Olympic-sized lap pool. The roof deck also boasts a relaxing lounge area with fire pit and jacuzzi, and outdoor fitness and training stations with optimum views of the city. Additional amenities include 5,000 square feet of locker space, a steam room and sauna, and laundry/dry cleaning services.
The lush Westgate Hotel fusing with one of the most-frequented health and fitness facilities gives a bit of a facelift to our downtown quarters. “PureFitness has been San Diego’s premier fitness club for nearly two decades, so it made sense that they are the perfect fitness provider to form this affiliation with,” says Richard Cox, general manager of The Westgate Hotel. “Luxury is the theme that will resonate throughout this cutting edge health and fitness facility, a theme the hotel has boasted for more than 40 years.”
Since 1970, The Westgate Hotel has remained an iconic property in the heart of downtown, part of the Grand America Hotels & Resorts collection. PureFitness was more recently founded in 1992 by former San Diego Charger and local attorney Michael London, with a focus primarily on providing members with unique programs in a comfortable and pristine environment.
Current PureFitness members will be given an exclusive opportunity to sign up as members at the new location at their existing membership fee. The hotel combined with the roof deck pool, lounge, spa, and fitness facilities will make for a top local stop in San Diego set to open in early 2012. For more information, visit The Westgate Hotel.
