Filet Mignon all up in your sushi roll? Why not? How about some Hickory Smoked Bacon taking up the space between grains of rice? Have at it. Sabuku Sushi calls upon these eclectic ingredients not typical to show up at our local sushi joints, and makes a masterpiece. While the rolls are downright untraditional by sushi standards, the outside-of-the-box thought process seems to agree with our ever-changing American palates demanding constant creativity. Of course, Sabuku's chefs roll out fresh fish on the daily, a favorite choice from loyal fans.
This food-forward, ingenious thinking (the kind of dish that makes you say “why didn’t I think of that?”) is devoted to serious new ways to look at sushi, while keeping a fresh-fish outlook. Not to fret if you’ve got a hankering for some of the basic sushi tastes. Common hand rolls can be found at Sabuku, including Spicy Tuna Rolls, California Rolls, and Spicy Crab Rolls. But it’s the many original creations that really show off the passion of the chefs. Popular choices include the Chicken Teriyaki Roll made with Chicken Teriyaki, Red Onion, and Pineapple on the inside, and Sweet Mandarin Sauce and Spicy Ginger Aoli on the outside. The Bacon & Scallop Roll packs in the Bacon with Pan Seared Scallops and Red Onion, Sweet Mandarin Sauce and Spicy Ginger Aoli. Or try the Kaboom Roll, filled on the inside with Seared Filet Mignon, Chicken Teriyaki, Grilled Red Onion and Zucchini, with Glazed Shrimp on the outside and topped off with Sweet Mandarin Sauce.
Just in time for the Oktoberfest season of brats and beer, Sabuku is getting in the spirit with the new Bratober Roll. Rolled up on the inside is Bratwurst, Jalapeno, Jack Cheese, Bacon, Kaiware Sprouts, Red Onion with Sauerkraut with a Spicy Mustard Topping. All month, enjoy a Bratober Roll and a large Sapporo or Asahi for $15.
