Saltbox Serves Sweet Movember Cocktails

Although we applaud your bold efforts, mustaches simply aren’t meant for everyone. It’s a sad truth that not every man can grow an epic Tom Selleck-worthy ‘stache, and let’s face it, mini-mustaches that leave you looking like a pubescent 12-year-old boy, or menopausal 50-year-old woman, just aren’t attractive. Thankfully, there are mo’ ways to support the Movember cause this year in San Diego.

The international Movembercampaign encourages the growth of mustaches on faces all over the world to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer. No longer just a fashion statement, the sacred ‘stache is now an interactive fundraising tool and a macho month-long challenge between friends and relatives, many of whom have been personally affected by these cancers.

Saltbox, the debut gastro-lounge within the Palomar Hotel, is offering a new way for locals to get involved with the launch of mustache-inspired cocktails. While you may not look so hot in a half-ass ‘stache, you’ll look flawless while sipping a charitable cocktail that is served in a pint glass and adorned with one of many iconic mustache styles. And best of all, a portion of proceeds will benefit the cause.

Saltbox’s Master Mixologist Erin Williams crafted two Movember spirits for your drinking pleasure. You can’t go wrong with The Tom Selleck, a playful twist on the classic Tom Collins made with Tanqueray Gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and topped with club soda and a festive garnish (pictured). For a completely new taste, order the Mo-Brewsky, a beer cocktail enhanced with Cointreau, Mount Gay Eclipse Rum, fresh lemon and orange juices, combined with a Green Flash Summer Saison beer and topped with a large peel of orange skin that resembles your dream ‘stache. Both Movember cocktails are available for $10, with $1 off for those who are rocking a real ‘stache and for those who have their photo taken with a fake ‘stache for the Facebook contest. Saltbox will donate 10% of the proceeds to The Movember Foundation, which supports the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Livestrong.

Insider Tip: Saltbox is hosting a Movember finale party on Wednesday, November 30th from 6 to 9pm, offering guests one last taste of Erin William’s Mo Cocktails. Rock your ‘stache and be considered for awards and recognition! The Movember party is open to the public and will take place in the downstairs bar area.
