2011 Deadmau5 Tour Stops in San Diego

Being that I don’t consider myself an authority on much of anything, save for the history of cheese, I’m what one would call a “late bloomer” when it comes to music trends.

A few years back, I remember seeing the name Deadmau5 popping up all over Facebook and I remember thinking, “What the hell is a deadmau5?! Flash forward to present day, I’d look like a straight up asshole if I asked someone to define a “mau5.” I mean, that’s almost as bad as saying you’ve never heard of Elvis! After all, the man is synonymous with the rise of the modern Electro/House music genre. Deadmau5 that is, not Elvis.

Voted the Number 4 DJ in the World by DJ Mag, Canadian electro house DJ/Producer Joel Zimmerman, AKA Deadmau5, is arguably one of the most influential music geniuses of our time. With the infamous mouse head as the most dominant aspect of his contrived image, Deadmau5 has garnered a wealth of accolades around the globe, including a residency in Ibiza at Amnesia nightclub, two gongs at the Ibiza Club Awards for “Best Electro House DJ” and “Best International DJ” & the award for 'Best House Artist' at the 2010 MTV VMAs, just to name a few.

Following a recent appearance on the Canadian YouTube cult cooking show “Epic Meal Time" which garnered more than two and a half million views, Deadmau5 announced news of a North American tour for the second half of 2011 with a performance in San Diego; a special remix package of “Raise Your Weapon”; a live DVD at Earl’s Court in London; a new Deadmau5 Touch Mix App; and a “Design A New Mau5head for Deadmau5” competition. Hot damn!

Prior to the tour’s launch, Deadmau5’s North American label, Ultra Music, will offer special remix packages for iTunes and Beatport of “Raise Your Weapon,” from Deadmau5’ 2010 full length album, 4x4=12.  The iTunes version will feature the original song, a remix and extended remix by French producer Madeon, remixes by Dutch trio Noisia and German producer Stimming, along with a radio edit; and The Beatport package will also feature the original song, the Madeon extended remix, Noisia and Stimming’s remixes as well as Stimming’s dub. In addition, Ultra Music will release a live DVD on Tuesday, July 5, which will showcase his 2010 performance as the first electronic artist to sell out London’s historic 19,000-capacity Earls Court.

Deadmau5 will also debut the all-new Touch Mix App for the iPod Touch & iPad the same day via facebook.com/deadmau5. The Deadmau5 Touch Mix App will allow fans to remix exclusive Deadmau5 music and compete to win a custom Deadmau5 iPad. Want to get involved? Deadmau5 is also launching "Design A New Mau5head for Deadmau5" competition on Friday, May 27, which will allow Deadmau5 fans to submit their original mau5head designs and compete for prizes.

The official 2011 North American Tour will kick off on Friday, August 5 at Lollapalooza in Chicago and will run throughout the U.S. and Canada, including shows in Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, Boston, New York, Houston, and our hometown of San Diego. The San Diego concert will be held during the last leg of the tour where Deadmau5 will spin a live set at SOMA in Point Loma on Wednesday, October 26. Tickets for the show are on sale now and can be purchased through LiveNation.com, select Live Nation and Ticketmaster retail outlets, and via Charge-By-Phone at 800.745.3000.
