While many business owners and CEOs of large corporations may be automatically tagged in the old, boring, and potentially way-too-serious categories, these assumed stereotypes do not hold true for the San Diego nightlife industry.
In fact, many nightclub owners in San Diego have far more party experience than the rest of us, and let’s just say, they definitely know how to have one hell of a good time. After all, why would you own a nightclub if you don’t let yourself enjoy the party perks?
Among many of these local living legends is Dave Laurent – one part Side Bar Principal Owner, two parts rock star.
While it’s no surprise to see Dave Laurent puppeteering the Side Bar party scene on any given Saturday night, surrounded by blazing bottle sparklers and beautiful people, locals witnessed a whole new side of Dave during the House of Fortune party on Thursday, June 10, 2010. From his VIP table, Dave escaped through the velvet ropes to man the one’s and two’s within Side Bar’s famous bird cage DJ booth alongside House of Fortune DJs Travis Emmons and Jon Dadon.

One may assume that someone as accomplished as Dave Laurent must have started his career in some prestigious Harvard circle; however Dave’s deepest roots are in the music industry. By the time he graduated high school, Dave was already spinning as a mobile DJ for Marc Jason Enterprises (now called Total Entertainment), and he continued on to spin at clubs in the Rockland County and New York Metro Area throughout the 1990s.
As the ‘90s came to an end, Dave focused more on the lucrative market of Day-Trading and Software Development. And just eight years later, he had built and sold four separate Financial and/or Software Related Companies, granting him the financial success and freedom to get back to his passion in nightlife and entertainment. In 2005, Dave founded LovinLife Productions, which produces upscale events in Miami, San Diego and Las Vegas, and has partnered with such events as Winter Music Conference in Miami.
Meanwhile, back in San Diego in 2008, the new power-house collective RMD Group – comprised of nightlife and entertainment entrepreneurs Rodrigo Iglesias, Mike Georgopoulous and Dave Renzella – was in the process of staging a multi-million dollar renovation of one of San Diego’s original clubs, Side Bar. Dave Laurent partnered with the RMD Group and purchased Side Bar, enabling the vision to become a reality.
A fresh new summer party series, Side Bar’s House of Fortune Thursdays feature San Diego-based music and entertainment company Fortune 421’s close-knit family of house and electro DJs along with $7 you-call-it drink specials all night. With a rotating roster of featured Fortune DJs, the brand new House of Fortune weekly parties at Side Bar are already one of the hottest destinations for Thursday nights in downtown San Diego.
So of course it only made sense for Dave Laurent to choose the House of Fortune party on Thursday, June 10th to showcase his DJ skills alongside Fortune DJs Travis Emmons and Jon Dadon. Principal Owner by day, rock star by night, Dave Laurent took over the bird cage and spun his signature mix of electro, tech and progressive house beats as friends and party-goers – including DiscoverSD.com President Nadav Wilf, of course – popped bottles and rose champagne flutes in his honor.

Although Dave Laurent may be one of the more successful owners in the San Diego nightlife and entertainment industry, he still has as much fun today as he did on the day he created that first mix tape in the late 1980s.
Who says your life has to stop when you achieve success? We say, that’s when the real fun begins.
Just ask DiscoverSD.com’s own living example, Party Jeff. If you’ve yet to meet our infamously out-of-control CEO, just head to Side Bar during the next big party ... or day ending in "y" ... and you will find him next to Dave Laurent and Nadav Wilf, probably ordering the 13th magnum bottle of Dom P...
