Listing Details: Created by CAF Air Group One, a volunteer based non-profit organization, the World War II Flying Museum was designed to preserve the stories of those who served in the skies and the planes they flew in World War II. Currently on display is a SNJ "Sassy" and in restoration at the hanger is an L-5 Sentinel, or what is known as a "Betsy". Air Group One's members work on a number of local projects that include: museum displays; maintenance and restoration of World War II airplanes; attendance at Southern California airshows accompanied by aircraft; and organization of special events, such as their Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser. The Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser is held in the hangar at Gillespie Field every fourth Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.m., followed by a general meeting open to all. Other special events include the annual World War II airshow called "Wings Over Gillespie". The museum is open to the public, free of charge, Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For additional information call (619) 259-5541.
