Listing Details: The New Children’s Museum theme is think, play, create. Opening its doors in San Diego’s Marina District on May 4, 2008, it could not have opened at a more critical time for San Diego’s youth. As many schools continue to cut their arts programs, NCM is stepping in and filling this void. NCM is a community center for toddlers, teens, and families. The Museum experience features innovative, provocative artworks that kids can touch, climb, or move; hands-on art making; and a variety of arts-based classes and camps. It also features an organic cafe, abundant seating, and quiet space for parents and infants. The museum extends to the outdoors with a park across the street where visitors can run, climb, have family picnics and view passing trains and trolleys. NCM’s Executive Director, Rachel Teagle PhD, says of NCM, “Our goal is to inspire children to think, play and create by providing accessible and meaningful art experiences. We are a unique hybrid of a children’s museum and an art museum.” For more information about all NCM has to offer, visit their website at www.thinkplaycreate.org.
