Scott Windau with Jet Source Charter in Carlsbad is an agent who sees empty leg specials offered to the public a couple of times a month. Windau says the most common flights are usually from San Diego to Las Vegas, Oregon, Montana or Colorado for ski trips. During the holidays, empty legs tend to increase.
Empty legs do, however, have their downfalls. For example, they're only one-way and therefore the customer must make their own arrangements to return home. The flights can also be canceled without advance notice so the customer has to be flexible and understand that there's no guarantee.

"I sometimes get nervous when I book empty legs because they are not always predictable. But sure if the person understands this, then go ahead and book," says Windau.
The attractive aspect comes from the price reduction usually. For example, a normal flight with 2 round trips (more than 1 day of service) will normally cost about $9,000 with no discount. The price also depends on the size of the plane, amenities included as well taxes. So, is it worth it?

"I've flown on a charter jet and it's a whole other world of flying. It's just so comfortable to be by yourself and not be jam-packed in a commercial flight," says Windau. ;
You can be the judge by trying one out. While flying on the cheap may do the trick, flying like a VIP and getting a good discount will have you feeling like a rock star.
