Let’s be honest, if you’re lucky enough to have a special someone to spend Valentine’s Day with, you’re sure to be surrounded by blinged-out gifts from a local boutique, lavish four-course dinners at one of San Diego’s best restaurants, cocktails and champagne, chocolate-covered nibbles and a stay at one of the area’s trendiest and most luxurious hotels to top it all off.
While you may already have dinner reservations, a couples massage scheduled and the sexiest outfit ready to rock, don’t think your Valentine’s Day planning is over just yet. When it comes to choosing a hotel in San Diego for one of the most romantic weekends of the year, it’s all in the details.
Ever considered your need for gourmet breakfast in bed? Who will you call when you need an emergency stripper pole in the middle of the night? Or maybe, whipped cream delivery service?
Here are some tips for finding the best breakfast in bed, and then some, at San Diego hotels. Local concierges are eager to help, make suggestions, and fulfill your most extravagant fantasies.
Hard Rock Hotel – Downtown
It’s no wonder the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego made our list. Case in point: the Rock ‘N’ Romance Package available only on Valentine’s Day weekend. The concierge desk is pulling out all the tricks – not to mention sharing previous guests’ requests of portable stripper poles and where to find the best local peep shows – to get you in the mood for love. Based on availability, complimentary suite upgrades are available along with a sinful dessert amenity, such as a “Whipped Cream Bikini,” champagne and strawberries. Dinner reservations will be made at the Nobu Japanese restaurant, to be followed by an in-room movie with your choice of a PG rating or a XXX rating. Those making their way up to Float or 207 to let loose will receive VIP access. Breakfast in bed can also be ordered and delivered from Maryjane’s to cater to your latte or Espresso Martini requests. The Grand Del Mar – Del Mar
The Grand Del Mar might be offering the most inclusive Valentine’s Day package this year. A Grand Romance Package definitely makes the mark for the best accommodations. The package is available the whole month of February and features a one-night stay with an upgrade at the time of booking; champagne and other accoutrements at the time of your arrival; a dozen long-stemmed roses; the “Cupid’s Classic” treatment at the spa, which includes a mineral-rich bath, moisturizing wrap, 60-minute massage, body scrub, private shower and chocolate-covered strawberries in their private couple’s suite; a rose petal drawn bath with candles and Cognac; breakfast in bed for two, or breakfast at the resort’s restaurant; a private couple’s yoga class; valet parking and a parting gift; and a late check-out. Check out the resort’s restaurants and bars for their V Day-inspired cocktails, nibbles, desserts and full-course meals, not to mention the Valentine’s inspired culinary class on February 3. The concierge has had requests for rose petal turn down services and special trinkets laid onto the guests’ bed.
Keating Hotel – Downtown
Available only on Valentine’s Day weekend (February 12-15), The Keating is offering a special Love Potion accommodation package. It includes a personalized turn down service (consisting of lit candles or even little nibbles for a late night snack), a bubbly bath in their Morphosis Jacuzzi (only available in suites with tubs), chocolate covered strawberries, a three-course dinner for two at The MerK, Chilean Sparkling Wine delivered at your request, and an extended check-out for some extra moments to linger around in the room the next morning. The Keating offers a continental breakfast every morning that can be delivered to your room at any time. Their concierge service is available 24/7 and when asked about any extraordinary requests, they’ve “seen it all.”
W Hotel – Downtown
The W Hotel is offering two different packages for Valentine’s Day weekend. Couples can enjoy a bottle of Veuve Clicquot once they arrive, a complimentary room upgrade and breakfast in bed delivered by room service for the next morning. The Couples Package also includes chocolate covered strawberries and rose petals to set you in the mood. Or, for a more risqué experience at the W San Diego, the specialty Fantasy Package includes a luxury Spin the Bottle game and a delicious side of body frosting. Hotel Del – Coronado
Coronado is already a romantic and picturesque getaway, so why not spend with A Night of Romance at the Hotel Del? The package includes a stay at the historic hotel, breakfast for two at the hotel’s oceanfront restaurant Sheerwater, a dozen roses, champagne and strawberries to enjoy in the room and valet parking. Hotel Del is also known for the acclaimed Sunday Brunch in the Crown Room, so if you’re mobile, head your way downstairs for the legendary waterfront brunch. The Concierge Desk claims they’ve never had any special, out-of-the-ordinary requests other than the standard flowers, champagne and rose petals leading from the door to the bed.
Paradise Point Resort & Spa – Mission Bay
The resort has been underway with a massive upgrade to the waterfront rooms so there’s a great possibility that you’ll be staying in a brand new room with the Valentine’s Getaway Package this year. The package includes an overnight accommodation (ask about complimentary upgrades for one of their oceanfront suites and late check-out), dinner for two at the fine dining restaurant One Baleen, and a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Room service is available for breakfast in bed starting at 7am.
