It’s no surprise America’s Finest City is a coveted locale for Fourth of July celebrations.

With the stunning beaches, illustrious rooftop pools, creative restaurants, vibrant fireworks displays, and overflowing calendars full of exciting events and parties, San Diego is the place to be this Fourth of July weekend.

From firework displays to patriotic dining specials and the best rooftop pool parties, discover our Insider picks for Fourth of July in San Diego.

Top 3: Fireworks in San Diego

San Diego Bay’s Big Bay Boom! show is not only 16 ½ minutes long but is also televised on two stations. Seemingly one of the most popular shows, The Port of San Diego is working with the Old Town Trolley to provide free shuttle service to those watching from Harbor Island and Shelter Island.

San Diego County Fair has fireworks every year. However this year, the festivities will last long after the last fuse is lit. Smokey Robinson will be entertaining crowds after the fireworks show in a free-with-fair-admission performance. Not to mention the bevy of contests the Fair offers, including a Watermelon Seed Spitting and Frozen T-shirt Contest (participant must be the first to unfold and wear a frozen t-shirt).

OB Pier hosts its 30th annual fireworks show in Ocean Beach. The rockets will be sent up at Newport Ave & Ocean Blvd. at 9 o’clock. This show is guaranteed to be a pyromaniac’s dream, and the whole displayed is choreographed to the sounds of Radio SOPHIE 103.7.

Top 3: Patriotic Palate Pleasers

Anthology: San Diego’s finest supper club will turn into “Anthologyville” on July 4 with a special menu dedicated to margaritas, cheeseburgers in paradise and the music of Gary Seiler and the Buffed Out Band, one of the country’s finest Jimmy Buffett tribute bands. The show will start at 7pm and end in plenty of time for the parrothead patrons to watch three different fireworks displays at the downtown waterfront.

Hornblower Fireworks Cruise: The Fourth of July cruise includes up close views of fireworks over the bay, a specialty boarding beverage in a souvenir Hornblower glass, attentive service from our award winning crew, DJ hosted entertainment throughout the evening and taste tempting food stations featuring Hickory Smoked Baby Back Ribs, Southern Fried Chicken, a Build-Your-Own Cheesecake Bar and much more.

Alchemy: The owners of Alchemy are kickin' their staff out for a well-deserved day off and will be working the bar and dining room themselves. For just $10 bucks per plate guests will have an array of tasty entree and side dish options. Featured on the holiday menu is a variety of classic barbeque main entrees with the flavor dial turned up a notch. Chef Ricardo Heredia is putting a San Diego spin on traditional BBQ favorites including Mexican Beef Brisket tacos, a fun Mexican twist on an American classic. Alchemy knows it's a bummer you can't have "Adult Beverages" on the beach anymore, so drink down some classic draft Beer and Whiskey & Cokes ($3 each).
