Tucked away behind the intersection of Mission Blvd. and Pacific Beach Drive lies the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa - a hidden hideaway for local San Diegans and their guests.
The tropically inspired resort offers bay front entertainment for families as well as those looking for a relaxing time away from the city. With the summer season fast approaching, the Catamaran is offering a long list of hot weather events to cool off to and open air happenings perfect for enjoying San Diego's fine weather.
Upon arrival at the Hawaiian hideaway, a 14 foot stone waterfall greets guests along with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. If you have a couple minutes before check in, I recommend wandering around the lobby and meeting rooms where native artifacts adorn many of the walls. Imported woods, canoes, totem poles, authentic jewelry, and authentic head hunter's artifacts are on view.
Outside of the lobby, the resort's grounds are beautifully manicured with dozens of different types of rare and exotic palm trees and ponds for the resort's resident tropical birds and koi fish. Make sure to say hello to Chadwick, a sulfur crested cockatoo that resides on site. For children and the bird lover in you, a daily bird show starts June 27 until September 6, except Sundays and Wednesdays, where guests can learn about the bird habitat and take photos with the winged creatures.
Beginning July 5, Catamaran guests and the public can attend the resort's summer luaus. Kids and their parents can partake in lei making before the luau and doors open at 6pm. Guests will have a memorable evening of musical entertainment, performances and a dinner buffet. Following the first luau, the event will occur every Friday until September 5.

Although our beaches have become a bit less rowdy due to the recent alcohol ban, many are still opting to visit our city's bays for waterfront entertainment. The Catamaran has its own pier and docking area for guests and neighboring patrons, as well as many water toys and boats available for renting. Making afternoons by the bay that much more enjoyable, the Catamaran offers umbrellas, towels and chairs with which to enjoy the heat of the summer sun.
The Catamaran is also within close proximity of Belmont Park in Mission Beach as well as boutique shopping and nightlife in Pacific Beach. And while the teens are off enjoying Pacific Beach entertainment, stick around for family movies on the bay and views of Sea World's nightly summer fireworks.
The lodging at the Catamaran is also appropriate for any budget and 315 rooms and suites are available. Guests are offered bay front accommodations, rooms with garden and pool views and tower suites that offer views of the Coronado Bridge and the coast line.

Atoll is the on-site resort five star restaurant, perfect for fine alfresco or indoor dining, and continuously voted best for Sunday brunch. Atoll will also host a special dining event with Hook & Ladder winery. Master winemaker Cecil De Loack will prepare a perfectly paired four-course dinner with his farmed grapes on June 10.
As if bodies of water surrounding the resort weren't enough, the resort boasts a large pool and Jacuzzi for sun bathing and mingling. Nearby is the arcade area, full of old school and new school video games. The best part: no quarters necessary - all of the games are complimentary.
The Catamaran Spa is also a unique waterfront experience with restorative treatments inspired by the South Pacific and Asia. The spa is beautifully decorated with neutral tones and glass tiles. Spa guests have access to their outdoor whirlpool and health club, which offers top-of-the-line cardio equipment, group walks on the bay and open air yoga and Pilates classes.

For a real treat, indulge yourself in the Egyptian Golden ritual, which begins with a gentle exfoliation, rinse in a Swiss shower, warm body wrap and massage. After a soothing bath, gold-flecked body oil is massaged into the skin leaving the skin like an ancient goddess. The spa also offers exotic body treatments, massage, facials, nail care and hair care services.
