Top Ten San Diego Concerts in September

September is here, and to most that means summer fun is over and it's the beginning of another painfully-productive autumn. For San Diego music fanatics that feel the local sound fades with the summer season, think again.


Incase you're not in-the-know, here's a crash course on what the San Diego music scene has in store this September. There's no need to feel disconcerted; we've discovered the top ten concerts in San Diego this September. Get ready to study up and plan accordingly.



1. Super Diamonds at the Del Mar Race Track


Del Mar's thoroughbred racing and concert season ends with a free event highlighted by a performance from Neil Diamond tribute band Super Diamond on September 5. Performing together since 1993, Super Diamond's mission is to spread "the good word of Neil" to all generations. The paddock at the Del Mar Racetracks will transform into an all-inclusive venue where race fans can celebrate the end of summer with food, beverages, and classic song.

2. Rise Against at SOMA, San Diego


Punk band Rise Against is ready with to rock SOMA with hardcore and melodic guitar riffs. Rise Against just announced their participation in this year's international Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour. Silverstein, Comeback Kid, and Cancer Bats join Rise Against at SOMA, the only venue in San Diego for true diehard rock aficionados of all ages.

3. Incubus at Coors Amphitheatre


San Diego's Coors Amphitheatre is host to a bevy of artists during September. First on the list at Coors is alternative rock band Incubus on September 8. The multi-platinum band from Calabasas, California will play hit songs from last year's Light Grenades album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200.

4. Jazz Festival in Ocean Beach


Music hits the heart of the San Diego beachfront September 9th during the Ocean Beach Jazz 88 Jazz Festival. Hundreds of fans will enjoy a variety of music styles, including Jazz, Latin, Soul, and Blues; all performed by internationally-acclaimed star bands. The event is co-hosted by local station KSDS Jazz 88.3 FM, and the Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association.

5. Toby Keith at Coors Amphitheatre


Country's in the air at Coors Amphitheatre September 9th during a Toby Keith and Miranda Lambert headlined concert. Both singer-songwriters are award-winning country stars that released new albums this year. Lambert opens the continuing success of Keith's Big Dog Daddy Tour.

6. Velvet Revolver at Coors Amphitheatre


Coors seesaws from rock to country and back to rock when super-group Velvet Revolver shreds at the Coors Amphitheatre. With members such as Slash and Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses fame and Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver brings rock love to the masses. Alice in Chains and Sparta join Revolver in this concert of classic rock appreciation.

7. The White Strips at Coors Amphitheatre


Alternative rock duo The White Stripes continues the month's rock theme at Coors Amphitheatre. Infamous for low fidelity, their simple, calm, yet soulful garage rock music is popular among all genres. Indie rock band Cold War Kids, from Fullerton, California, joins the White Stripes at Coors.

8. Smashing Pumpkins at SDSU Open Air Theatre


No loud music on a school night? Don't say that to alternative iconic rock band Smashing Pumpkins, performing at San Diego State University's Open Air Theatre on September 19th. The on-campus concert is part of the long-awaited Smashing Pumpkins fall tour, the first full-scale outing since the group disbanded in 2000.

9. Old School End of Summer Jam at Coors Amphitheatre


Local radio station Magic 92.5 holds an Old School End of Summer Jam at Coors Amphitheatre. A variety of artists ranging from Stevie B to Evelyn Champagne King, Sugar Hill Gang, Grandmaster Flash, and The Original Expose are slated to bring back old-school memories with their numerous influential hits.

10. Street Scene at Coors Amphitheatre


Considered to be one of the largest music concerts in America, the annual San Diego Street Scene festival takes place on the weekend of September 22-23rd at Coors Amphitheatre. Originally held in the streets of downtown San Diego, the event has slowly moved to other venues in recent years. Initial reports for 2007 Street Scene stated the festival would take place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. However, the finalized venue for Street Scene, 2007 is once-again, Coors Amphitheatre.


The two-day multiple-genre music mash-up features Muse, Panic! at The Disco, Slightly Stoopid, G. Love & Special Sauce, T-Pain, The Killers, Social Distortion, Arctic Monkeys, T.I., Louis XIV, and Gym Class Heroes, among many.
