When standing inside the Showroom, surrounded by such beauties as the matte black F22 Raptor fighter jet styled 2008 Lamborghini Reventon – 1 of 3 in the world, only one in the U.S., 3 of 20 to be built – it’s easy to see how Rick and the Symbolic crew get attached to the incredible inventory. Before he revealed his favorite child in the family, he escorted me on a tour of all the goods.
The understated elegance of downtown La Jolla makes for the perfect Showroom setting. A palm tree lined side walk, soft brick exterior, and white-trimmed glass entryway make for a stunning first impression. Inside, however, exposed industrial ceilings, brick floors and wood accents create a simple atmosphere that lets the inventory do the talking.
Bentley is the number one selling brand by volume at Symbolic Motors, closely followed by Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini. As compared to vintage collectibles and extravagant Ferrari models, Bentley is an accessible and relatively modest everyday driving car and, therefore, is the most consistently common vehicle purchased at the La Jolla Showroom. The Bentley ranges in price from $180K to $400K. Rolls-Royce is the second most popular brand, and goes for $300K to $500K. Symbolic offers a wide range of Lamborghini models, ranging from $220K to $500K.
Symbolic Motors is also known for a variety of rare vintage collectibles spanning from 1920s – 1970s, including an incredibly cool old school hot rod that is definitely not street legal. The 1952 Blastolene Indy Special is the most unique find in the Showroom. There are only 2 tank engine Blastolene models in the world, and the other is currently being polished in Jay Leno’s personal collection.
Yellow is known to be the signature Lamborghini color, due to Ferrari’s claim to red. However, Rick’s personal favorite car currently in the Showroom is the 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder in apple cherry red with black leather and red stitching. “Now this is a sexy car,” he admires while making sure I see the alluring color combination that defies luxury vehicle stereotypes, and looks damn good while doing so.
For those craving speed, allow me to introduce you to the 2008 Bugatti Veyron, built strong with 10 radiators and 4 turbochargers. This red and black beast is capable of hitting 250 miles per hour.
Rick is a huge Bugatti fan: “This car is an engineering marvel. To go that fast and stay on the ground is just incredible. It’s the closest thing to a spaceship you’re going to find for the road. When you drive this car, you have 2 keys. The first is for the regular ignition that powers the car up to 200 miles per hour. When you’re ready for that extra speed, you use the second key.”
