THREADucate Yourself: San Diego THREAD Show
Published : 03/31/2008 by Michelle Guerin
Antique planes soar over head, edgy models give the winding runway a punk stomp, sunlit cocktails flow seamlessly through the smiling crowd; the dernier cri of springtime fashion floats about the circular frame with whimsical flair.
THREAD Show is all the rage in San Diego, thrice annually setting the Air and Space Museum at Balboa Park into cultural upheaval in the name of fashion. The perpetually chic contrast of the historical ambiance and the avant-garde spirit makes THREAD San Diego the most anticipated fashion tradeshow in the county.
THREAD embarks on the first 2008 local adventure on Sunday, April 13 unleashing upon San Diego a fresh index of designers, entertainment, lifestyle luxuries, and VIP pre-parties.
Spring into summer mode and mold your new wardrobe with the latest in urban style - from beachwear to club get-ups and enough jaunty accessories to keep you clad until next season.
Basic Trend
THREAD is a leading independent fashion and lifestyle tradeshow, with stops across the world - from San Diego to Las Vegas and Bristol, UK. This tradeshow thrives on the passion of Alex and Lara Matthews, the brother-sister duo dedicated to discovering the next best independent designers and showcasing their cutting-edge trends in an all-eccentric all-embracing urban party atmosphere.
Spring Fads
Pre-party
Celebrating the timely spirit of spring, THREAD is announcing two new pre-party additions to the April lineup. Merge into style at Sweetwater Saloon, the sleek Gerber Group saloon inspired bar within the Hard Rock Hotel on Thursday, April 10 for the official pre-party launch.
Avoid the early-morning loose strands and hectic hustle and bustle of eager shoppers by hitting up the VIP pre-party hour with DiscoverSD.com from 10 - 11am. Put some sass in your step and pass by the line, straight up to the VIP entry where you will be greeted with a VIP Juicy gift bag and complimentary champagne. For the next hour, the floor is all yours. Translation: first dibs on all the hottest spring styles. Secure your limited VIP RSVP here.
Pop Up
SubText Design Bookstore and Gallery is bringing back the pop up craze with an impromptu book store that will showcase the latest fashion, design, and home art books.
Punk Art
Adapta Project has scanned the county for San Diego's top up and coming urban artists and will unleash the collective talent at THREAD. Check out adaptaproject.com for an art show preview and more info on the project.
Pamper and Stimulate
It's a coiffure crime to go un-punked at THREAD. Start off your day with a punk-over 'do from Disconnected Salon. Chiropractique and Young Living will turn you on within the stimulation suite, featuring massages and healthy lifestyle promotions. And, after your massage, head over to the 944 pad for manicures and more hair flair.
Posh Sips
It's official - it's no longer appropriate to shop sans cocktails. Cheers to complimentary Absolut and Sake2Me spirits in the cocktail lounge.
Pretty Indulgence
THREAD unveils the top up and coming designers from all over San Diego - enabling you to snag the chic samples before the mainstream consumes the independent. View over 90 new designers in one day, with rotating fashion shows to the beats of DJhere Productions all day long.
