Team GOPINK! Breast Cancer Benefit Fashion Show

Simply put, Breast Cancer sucks. It is an invasive, rapacious disease that has yet to know a cure and is the leading cancer among American women - second only to lung cancer in cancer deaths.

It is estimated that 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and the toll exacted on survivors and those who lose loved ones to the disease is often physically, emotionally, psychologically and financially devastating.

DiscoverSD.com is proud to be a media sponsor of Team GOPINK! (TGP), a group of nine vivacious San Diego women (ranging in age from 17 to 45) who are spirited and determined to raise $30,000 this year for the fight against Breast Cancer.

Team GOPINK!, along with over 80 TGP volunteers and support members, will host a benefit fashion show on April 26, 2008 featuring local designers and boutiques, and hold a silent auction preceding the event that will feature small to large ticket items donated by various San Diego companies.

All net proceeds for the fashion show and auction will directly fund Team GOPINK! in the 2008 Susan G. Komen 3-day, 60-mile San Diego Breast Cancer Walk, to benefit the National Philanthropic Breast Cancer Fund for research and education.

Team GOPINK! Captain Kassandra Sandstrom could not be happier with the support the event is receiving and the anticipated number of people expected (over 1,000) to come out for the show. Although, the humanitarian impact the event is hoping to generate is equally as important. "This event is not just about who's attending, but rather who is inspired by attending," Kassandra says.

Impressions Catering and Exciting Events will provide gourmet hors d'oeuvres and complimentary drinks set amidst a pink-themed catered reception that will precede the show with the silent auction. The silent auction will feature prizes ranging from private in-home wine parties to photography sessions at the beach, Botox to personal training sessions.

The boutiques participating in the fashion show are Ronda's Closet of Carmel Valley, Tatiana Boutique of Del Mar, Maeve Riley of South Park and Station Boutique of Little Italy. These fashion houses will premiere their spring lines at the show and the clothing will be modeled by a team of professional models, as well as everyday women in an attempt to provide an eclectic and diverse take on the clothing.

"Diversity is an underlying theme for the show, as we are trying to get across that Breast Cancer affects anyone and everyone," notes Kassandra. Westview's own DJ, Kevin Walzack, will be playing a customized play list tailored to the theme of the show and the reception will feature Breast Cancer inspired songs from artists such as Double Zero and Melissa Etheridge.

Although Team GOPINK! is thrilled to host this schmoozerific, networking event, the driving force behind it all is The Walk. The Susan G. Komen 3-day, 60-mile San Diego Breast Cancer Walk works to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure: the leading Breast Cancer Foundation in the nation.

And although this walk does not commence until November 21, 2008, Captain Kassandra wants to point out that that the money raised at the GOPINK! show will be put to use immediately. "The money will go directly into Breast Cancer research and supporting treatments now; it will not sit in a bank account until November," she states.

The Team GOPINK! benefit fashion show will be held on Saturday, April 26th from 2-5pm at Westview-Center Plaza. VIP Premium Reserved Seating for the show is $25 per person and General Admission is $15. Everyone will have a seat, but VIPs will get a reserved seat in the first ten rows.
