Stay Warm and Remain Radiant this Winter in San Diego
Published : 12/31/2007 by Jenny Herman
Now that winter is finally upon us, it is time to push our beloved flip-flops and tanks aside and start worrying about how to keep warm.
Although San Diego is beautiful almost all the time, we are no longer in seventy degree weather, are we girls? Here's the good news, it is now super easy to transition your summer and fall clothes to accommodate the winter chill. For starters - pair your fall dresses with textured or opaque tights to keep your legs warm. Add flat boots and a long sweater for the day. And at night, some heels and a chic wrap will keep you toasty warm and unbelievably sexy.
Currently and well into 2008, the fashion buzz is all about layering. A very modern way to put an outfit together, to layer is an instant way to stay stylish, no matter the weather. Bold colors and texture are everywhere this season, especially shoes with pops of color, heels with architectural shapes and high platforms. Along with these shoe trends, the pointed toe makes a comeback, and be sure to hold on to your ballet flats - as they will remain fashionable well throughout 2008.
To answer the rest of our winter wardrobe questions, we sought advice from Donna Steinback, owner of the new 5,500 square foot boutique shop located in downtown La Jolla, Donna Marsh. Opened just three weeks ago, Donna Marsh is an upscale women's clothing store showcasing more than 120 top designers. She and her husband previously owned a store in Palm Desert and have always wanted to bring their style to San Diego.

When asked about winter trends and the upcoming fashions for 2008, Donna quickly named off a few key pieces every girl should have in their wardrobe. Anything metallic, whether it be a handbag, jacket, tank top or dress, is very important for the upcoming months – and all the way into spring.
Summer and autumn dresses are still going strong because they can be translated in so many different ways. Throw on some tights or a pashmina and you are set to hit the town on a cold winter night. We may be in the middle of winter, but you will see prints and patterns popping up everywhere, from animal to geometric to Pucci-esque prints. Wide leg jeans and pants are still trendy, and waistlines are still continuing to come up.
Jewelry and accessories make a big statement. Throw on a beautiful, long chain necklace or a belt worn to accentuate the waist. As mentioned, layering is essential this season and in the coming year - let Donna Marsh supply you with the vast assortment of tank tops in every color imaginable. Our favorite must-haves from Donna Marsh are the short and flirty and long and elegant, one-shoulder evening dresses and dresses with back interest, high waist pants and skirts with vivid colors, soft shades, and colorblocking.
As for Donna, she likes to stay warm in the wintertime with pashmina wraps in bright, vibrant colors because they are beautiful on and give a burst of happiness on gloomy days. On their morning visit to Starbucks, she wears one wrapped around her neck and gets compliments every time. Also, cashmere sweaters are a go-to staple, due to both the comfort and warmth factors.
Carrying every look from sweat suits to eveningwear, and accommodating every woman from age 25 to 70, Donna Marsh has something to keep everyone warm and fabulous in the wintertime. The Donna Marsh boutique staff specializes in creating an entire outfit or even a whole new wardrobe for each client.
Local designer, Gussto, who creates beautiful handbags, has just created a new denim line that will be sold at Donna Marsh. Other well-known designers include Badgely Mischka, Trina Turk, Robert Rodgriguez and Nanette Lepore.
Donna Marsh carries beautiful apparel for the working woman, including straight or wide leg pants, flexible blouses, great white cotton blouses (some with ruffles) and printed tops that not only look professional, but fashionable. Casual outfits can also be found at this one-stop shop, with lines such as XCVI and Twisted Heart.
Complete with a room dedicated to denim, Donna Marsh carries a variety of denim for both young girls and mature women. Choose from J Brand, Habitual, Tag, Rich and Skinny, Paige, Not Your Mother's Jeans and Womyn. The eveningwear room includes flirty cocktail dresses with lines such as Sky, beautiful separates and Marisa Baratelli evening gowns as well as accessories like the beautiful Yolanda wraps.
