Del Mar, which was once a secluded getaway for Hollywood celebrities, is now a two-mile stretch of San Diego coast with abundant boutique shopping, a tranquil ambiance, and a low-key Southern California attitude.

The downtown seaside village offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, and is home to award-winning restaurants and upscale bars, as well as over sixty boutique shops featuring high-end apparel, specialty gifts, and everything in between.

Del Mar Plaza, located on the corner of 15th Street and Camino Del Mar, is overflowing with three levels and over thirty trend-setting shops and boutiques full of high-fashion, collectibles, fine jewelry, artwork, and home décor. The Plaza is lined with soothing water fountains, creeping vines and curving walkways, all adding to the beauty that is Del Mar.

While other San Diego neighborhoods have grown into busy business areas, the Del Mar Village has managed to maintain its seaside charm and has become an emerging center for top shopping in North County. Here are a few of our favorite reasons why the reasons why.

Bayley
What was once a Harley Davidson store just a few years ago, has whimsically transformed into a hip boutique dubbed Bayley, after the incredibly-stylish young owner Bayley. Adorned with 1960's inspired vintage wallpaper, antique crystal chandeliers and Andy Warhol replicas, Bayley is a girl's dream come true.

Located right on the 101 in the Del Mar Plaza, Bayley helps young men and women appear couture and remain comfortable, in tone with the San Diego beach culture.

The racks are lined with beautiful dresses by French Connection, designer loungewear by Rebel Yell and Fresh Karma, as well as comfortable tees by La Made. Bayley also features an abundance of edgy men's apparel with designer brands including Matte Black, French Connection, and Wesc. Complete each look with Bayley's expansive array of jewelry, handbags, and sunglasses.

Ryan's Collection
Ryan's Collection is a new Del Mar boutique that exudes fashion, sophistication, and eternal style. Previously occupied by a Wells Fargo Bank, the 3,000 square foot space is home to everything from designer jeans to comfortable tees and stylish suits for both men and women.

Ryan's Collection carries must-have winter styles such as Dream Society tops, Pierce and Joe's high-waisted jeans, Biasia handbags, and Maui Jim sunglasses. Additional special-mention men's brands include Agave jeans and Division E Clothing.

In business for a few months now, owner Patricia Straight, along with co-owner Ryan Gonzales (also owners of Peaches En Regalia in the Del Mar Plaza) aim to supply beautiful clothing to a mature demographic at Ryan's Collection. A few of their more upscale signature styles are the Gimo's leather jackets (approximately $1200), A.B.S. evening gowns, and Fabrizio Gianni denim.

Shoetique
Shoetique, which opened its doors in 2001, specializes in high quality, fashionable and affordable shoes, and displays the designs within a white box-shaped setting. Rayna Shin, founder and owner, began to design shoes with the passion to create hand-made beautiful shoes with the best leather, suede, and satin.

Shoetique designs can be found anywhere from San Diego to Tokyo, Paris, and Seoul, all made with the same dedication to the feet of women around the world. Styles include pumps, ballerina flats, sandals, mules, wedges, ankle boots and high boots, as well as seasonal must-haves.

Sundancer
Sundancer is proud that multiple generations of women, whether age twenty or sixty, can shop at the eclectic, yet feminine boutique. Open to Del Mar for the past fourteen years, this boutique brings out the inner bohemian in Del Mar locals with both casual and designer labels. The exquisite Twisted Heart velour jumpsuits, Da Nang's comfortable attire and everyone girl's must-have Hanky Panky's are at your fingertips.

Beautiful Velvet dresses, Chan Luu and Morgan Jean jewelry, and Michael Stars designs (the only boutique in Del Mar to sell the Michael Stars cashmere line) will add glamour to your wardrobe. Even better, there is one whole room in the back of the boutique devoted to sale items with amazing deals.

Gerhard
Gerhard, located on the second level of the Del Mar Plaza, is an extremely upscale clothing and shoe boutique showcasing some of the most sought-after designers to date.

Catering solely to women, this boutique carries Derek Lam, James Perse, Jean Paul Gaultier, Stella McCartney, tsesay and malo. Christian Loubiton and Robert Clergerie shoes line the store, while Eskandar body wash, candles and bath soap as well as Herve Gamps earthy candles will leave you feeling fresh and clean.
