Untouchable Boxing Rolls Out the Red Carpet for San Diego
Published : 11/16/2007 by Michelle Guerin
As of fall 2007, select San Diego clubs and lounges have surpassed the local nightlife standards. Yet, they are not invincible - and are still vulnerable to the grasp of fans and foes.
Although a grand opening event may raise a certain venue onto a pedestal, it's made merely of curiosity. Next weekend, the scene returns to the norm - beginning the quest for the right promotion company.
However, that cycle is about to change.
Thanks to the new enigmatic buzz of Envy at Ivy, and Sweetwater Saloon and Moonstone Lounge at Hard Rock, an element of mystery is growing within San Diego nightlife. Select San Diego venues are holding on tight to the initial hype - and the echo is bouncing off Gaslamp streets, right into high-profile celeb-clad scenes.
When brand new must-try venues, such as the aforementioned, test out private openings and ultra-limited guest lists, industry members crave a peek inside, locals lust after a spot on the list, rumors of red carpets fill city streets, and Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York neighbors begin to catch on.
While professional Chargers and Padres players are known to frequent top venues in San Diego, most celebrities have stayed true to LA, Vegas, and NY.
Again, that cycle is about to change.
San Diego, welcome to the big leagues, and as they say: Let's get ready to rumble...
On Tuesday, November 27, 2007, Untouchable Boxing delivers a star-studded lineup for the first ever Celebrity Boxing Event at a San Diego hotel. The Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego opens its Manchester Ballroom doors to usher in a new era of entertainment in San Diego.
Eight fights rotate through one center stage ring, beginning at 7pm. The boxing event is headlined by industry legends Eddie Sanchez and Carly Daily, alongside Hector Macho Camacho Jr., house hold name and among the Latin boxing greats, along with Oscar de la Hoya and Julio Cesar Chavez. The fight card also includes noted boxer Rodney Jones, currently ranked among the top 10 in the world, Christy Hoy, additional fighters showcased on HBO, and top established and emerging recording artists.
One of the co-main events features Hector Camacho Jr. and Jonathan Reed from the first season of The Contender. The second co-main event will be Eddie Sanchez of San Diego and Purcell Miller from Baltimore. This event will also feature a special female bout with Carly Batey and Margarita Valentini. The next bout will be between Deon Elam, who is managed by Denzel Washington, and his opponent Victor Varrigan.
Untouchable Boxing events, by Big Dave, aka David Bradley, combine professional boxing with live entertainment, designer fashion shows, and A-list pre-parties and after-parties. In short, San Diego isn't tip-toeing into the high-profile celebrity scene; David Bradley is pushing San Diego into the ring, creating a signature buzz that is truly long lasting and untouchable.
Special mention celebrity guests include Terry Norris, former world boxing champion, Hall of Fame great Dave Winfield, professional athletes from the San Diego Chargers and Padres, Denzel Washington, and many more athletes and celebrities. As a special treat, attorney Carry Steigerwalt will be announcing one of the fights. Also, one lucky fan will have a chance to announce a live professional boxing match. Russel Simons and Rockport have donated designer shoes to give away to the first 100 attendees.
As the fighters leave the ring, fierce models take over the spotlight. In between battles, Untouchable presents a risqué multilevel fashion show in and around the sweaty ring, featuring Foreplay Lingerie and sensual city-wear provided by Haute Culture boutique.
Higher Minds, San Diego's homegrown hip hop group, will also take over the ring in-between fights. Higher Minds is the top group to come out of San Diego, blending hip hop, expansive beats, and forward insights. Over the past few years, Higher Minds has
performed with AfroMan, Lit, The Pharcyde, Fat Lip, Digable Planets, People under the Stairs, Ruff Ryders, 2 Live Crew, and Styles of Beyond. You may have also heard Higher Minds perform live at Shawne Merriman's Lights Out birthday party. Higher Minds was nominated for Best Hip Hop Album of the Year, and is set to shoot a professional music video with Evander Holyfield.
As celebrity announcers claim the Kings and Queens of the ring, the battle is nowhere near over. Untouchable hosts an exclusive after-party at the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel. Mingle among A-list celebs and professional boxers atop the ocean view cigar lounge terrace, or grab a cocktail and show off your dancing skills inside as Higher Minds entertains the crowd until all hours of the night. Multiple fashion and lingerie shows will also break through the ballroom at the "Battle at The Hyatt" after-party.
