In a coastal county as breezy and beautiful as San Diego, to walk is cherished recreation and to stroll is praised escape. From dawn till dusk on a daily basis, the bayside Mission Bay path and Pacific Beach boardwalk are packed with eager walkers, young and old, male and female, enjoying the weather, investing in every stride.
San Diego's benevolent side is also known to shine bright throughout the seasons. Dozens of new and classic charity events benefit notable causes each week in San Diego. Mixing the San Diego nightlife and fashion scenes with a splash of altruism, to be charitable is to be chic in San Diego.
It only makes sense that a charitable walk would succeed in San Diego; and the annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk is proof of the progress. The Breast Cancer 3-Day is not San Diego specific, Susan G. Komen's influence extends nation-wide to Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Twin Cities, Seattle, Michigan, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Dallas, Arizona, and more, beginning in August, with the November finale in San Diego, all benefiting the Susan G. Komen For the Cure foundation.
The Breast Cancer 3-Day walks are no easy strolls in the park; participants are challenged to walk at least 20 miles a day for 3 days straight, camping out each night in a manmade tent city. In addition, each walker must raise a minimum of $2200 in donations in order to participate.
The 2007 San Diego Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk begins at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on Friday, November 9, 2007 at 6:30am, and concludes at San Diego PETCO Park downtown on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at 4:00pm. With multiple break points and designated tent city sleeping points painted throughout the community; this dynamic San Diego event is sure to attract a booming crowd of supporters.
So, maybe you just heard about the San Diego 3-Day Walk, registration is already at capacity, and you still really want to be a part of the empowering cause.
How can you help?
In true San Diego style, if you want to support the 3-Day Walk without strapping on your walkin' shoes, slip into your stilettos and stroll over to Stingaree for the San Diego Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk for the Cure Fundraiser on November 7, 2007, at 8pm.
The San Diego Walk for a Cure Fundraiser is the brainchild of 3Day supporters Erin Cushman, Ryan Norr, Adrian Aguirre, and DeAnna Tesoriero. In the spirit of San Diego nightlife, this fundraiser is an innovative way to get the community more involved with the 3Day walk. Because many San Diego philanthropists would rather cheers a champagne glass at Stingaree than a nalgene bottle at the tent city stop, the upscale fundraiser was born.
The Walk for a Cure Fundraiser at San Diego's Stingaree, downtown, is shooting for the stars this November, in hope to elevate the charitable edge and really raise money for the Susan G. Komen For the Cure cause. Incorporating a fashion show and upbeat music at the most lavish of clubs in San Diego, this all-new fundraiser is sure to be a success.
Stingaree opens doors at 8pm for guests to enjoy cocktails and conversation throughout the 3 story super-club, while learning about the noble cause.
The fashion show will stomp through center stage, in the lounge, at 9:30pm. The San Diego boutique, Dream Girls, in Ocean Beach, is providing the fashion alongside jewelry and accessories from Jeweliany.com. And, The Leisure Society will provide lounge music and entertainment throughout the fashion show and into the evening.
Guests will also enjoy a live raffle, with prizes donated by local boutiques and sponsors. Try your luck to win a massage or facial from Details Salon and Spa, a free training session from Bootcamp619, and dinner at several famed San Diego restaurants.
Says fundraiser co-founder Ryan Norr, "this event is a great way to still support the cause, even if you aren't walking. There are multiple fundraisers associated with the Susan G. Komen foundation and the Breast Cancer 3-Day; we want to be different and try something new. By including the fashion show and music, we will appeal to a variety of San Diegans- all ages and generations. It's going to be the perfect celebration to launch into the 3-Day walk."
