San Diego's promising new promotion company, Field Trip Entertainment, instills the San Diego nightlife scene with a raw fusion of live music, interactive art, and grassroots urban awareness. With a firm dedication to uninfluenced and uninhibited monthly club events, Field Trip Entertainment defines cutting-edge promotions.

The men behind the maxim are Brett Fischer, Director of Operations for THREAD Tradeshow and Dave Weidetz, Art Director for Lost Clothing. Both are San Diego music and art aficionados and nightlife visionaries, dedicated to pushing the limits of creativity. These hip entrepreneurs strive to keep San Diego roots alive.

"We know San Diego," says Brett. "We grew up here. We're not trying to seed a Miami or New York scene—we're bringing a spotlight to this niche in San Diego."

Field Trip Mixes up the Surf Scene

After Field Trip Entertainment's launch event, TUNE IN!, lit up Hillcrest's Beauty Bar, a big buzz carried news of the company's success to San Diego's surfing headquarters, Reef. Field Trip Entertainment teamed up with Reef to promote the San Diego world premiere of Reef's first monumental surf video, Reef Mixed Tape, in which the company introduces a new-age underground appeal to Reef's corporate status.

Starring Bobby Martinez, the 2006 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) rookie of the year, Reef Mixed Tape brings light to the truth of this emerging surf legend. In the spirit of grassroots rebellion, Mixed Tape breaks down stereotypes to chronicle the unbiased reality of Latin and American culture and Bobby Martinez: the humble man, the modest musician, the fearless surfer. Reef Mixed Tape also stars Rob Machado, Mick Fanning, Brad Gerlach, Ben Bourgeois, The Hobgoods, and The Reef Team.

Reef Mixed Tape Premieres at The Wave House

The Reef Mixed Tape Premiere Party sparks Friday, May 25th from 8pm-12am at Pacific Beach's ultimate outdoor summer venue, The Wave House.

Tickets are $5, with proceeds benefiting Reef Redemption green crusade, where everything earned returns to the earth. In addition to the world premiere showing of Reef Mixed Tape, Field Trip Entertainment will present 3 stages of unique urban entertainment. The first hosts electro-rock foursome Buddy Akai, the second DJs Craig Smoove and Kipper.

The third stage hosts a vast canvas accompanied by 5 under-the-radar artists showcasing their strokes in a collaborative display of mural wall art. As electro-rock waves hype up the dance floor, artists Ian Morris, Ray Rivas, Dvice, Pinky, and Sprfkr team together to create live, candid mural art. The interactive mural scene blends the creative passions of the audience with the group's diverse talent, producing an organic aesthetic representative of the grassroots art scene in San Diego.

Live mural art is a gallery show redefined, says Brett, "As the artists feed off one another, the audience is also involved. Rather than admiring the final product at a gallery, our guests experience the artistic process, like they're backstage at the studio."

Says Dave, "We connect art with music, to give artists the visibility and respect they deserve. This is a new genre for artists—booked, treated, and paid like nightlife entertainers."

After the San Diego launch, the final mural travels north to Los Angeles, for Field Trip Entertainment's second premiere showing of Reef Mixed Tape at Club Element in Hollywood. As the second show takes off in LA, the same 5 artists continue to mold the canvas, highlighting stripes of LA vibe to the San Diego base coat.

And it's just the beginning for Field Trip Entertainment. "It's an ever-changing art form, never a clean canvas," says Dave.
