USA Today calls The Hotel Del Coronado "one of the top ten resorts in the world", and it really isn’t any surprise. The celebrated Del, rising from Coronado island like a seashell, is San Diego’s most historic accommodation destination. The Del was built in 1888, and designated a National Historic Landmark nearly one hundred years later, in 1977. Its ideal location across the bay from downtown’s city lights, grand facilities, and charming Victorian décor have been luring vagabonds back and again for nearly 120 years.
Families enjoy the myriad recreational amenities, and even planners love to utilize the 65,000 feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and exhibition space. In addition, many couples have tied the knot in this magical location, causing the Travel Channel the rate The Del as the number one wedding destination in America.
To be honest, the only reason why I stayed at this hotel is because it’s supposed to be historic. But it was a pleasant surprise age hasn’t dulled its beauty. It still is a beautiful place, and its service was very good. The views are quite enjoyable, and so are the basement shops. The standard rooms, however, were a little too small for my taste, and pricey too.
I took my family here for a weekend last December. The lobby, shops and restaurants were all decked out in beautiful Christmas decoration. The Christmas tree in the front lobby was amazing! The staff was friendly and helpful. The restuarant was probably my favorite part of the whole experience, delicious food and an unbeatable view of the ocean. My kids were fascinated by the legend of the ghost lady.
My family and I stayed at the del. And siblings where walking around and the property and some of the hotel employes asked me if I was staying there. I told them yes but I didn't know the number because i only remember things in visuals. I had to be in special classes in high school! But the employee told me to visualize myself walking off the property. My family and friends have decided to never go back to that hotel again. Discriminating against anyone is just wrong!
The rooms were not cleaned, the walls are paper thin, and the service is slow. The food was not great and the prices were unreasonable. Union Local 30 representing the service employees was using loud speakers to harass the guests and try to get them to check out. Your tourist dollars are not appreciated here.
i live in san diego, but my husband and i wanted to get away from the kids for one night, so we decided to stay at the Del. the hotel is amazingly beautiful and full of old fashioned architecture. it's a perfect picture spot. the restaurants serve pretty good food too. the standard rooms reminded me of the haunted hotel ride at disneyland--historical and regal. my only complaint is that it is very expensive. we dropped about $800 over one and a half days with room and meals.
