While the holidays are always something to look forward to, a minor problem comes with them as well: hello holiday overeating! CrossFit ...more
I have been to a number of "gyms" via travel and relocating. Always considered myself active and a fairly strong dude. I began learning about CrossFit 6-8 months ago. After finally hitting a wall at the traditional gym, I decided it was time for a new challenge. 619 has answered the call to that challenge. When I called to find out what steps I need to take to join, the owner Chris told me to come to a class at 7pm on the following day. I replied with a lackadaisical response, something like "I can probably make it." Chris's response to me was "If you can't commit, please call back when you think you're ready." At that point, I knew this was what I needed from a fitness perspective. I showed up the next day and partook in the most instructive fitness class I've ever been a part of. I came in the following day (sore as hell). Coaches Chris and Jared spent two hours with me going over XF movements, then asked me to stay for the daily WOD. From that point on, I have done my best to attend 6 days a week. Since I started CrossFit 619, I have learned more than I have in many combined years of being active. My gains in strength, technique and appearance (which are substantial btw) are second to my increase in knowledge. Every day is a challenge, learning experience and an opportunity to connect with some amazing athletes. The gym has an excellent balance of strength, gymnastics, endurance, Olympic lifting, etc. There is definitely a trickle down effect when it comes to passion at 619. We are intense, competitive and extreme. But we're also compassionate, considerate and helpful. Joining 619 has had an extremely positive influence on my life. I'm very happy to have found it.
These days it seems that a new crossfit gym is popping up every week and you can find a gym on any corner so it comes down to the details that really sets these gyms a part. Crossfit 619 is a gym that stands out from the rest. I have been to crossfit gyms in Boston, Atlanta and even Tennessee and Crossfit 619 is by far the most unique and beneficial experience I have had in the crossfit community. This gym not only offers the usual crossfit and nutrition programs you can find at all crossfit gyms but it has one very unique feature. That feature is trainer and owner Chris Keith whose many years of experience allow for every person who walks through the doors to be evaluated and coached on an individual level and given the support and programming unique to them that gives them the best chance for results and success. I promise you will not find such dedication and commitment from trainers and coaches at any other gym. Also the 619 community is on that thrives on competition, teamwork and commodore. Every day and every WOD you will be pushed to your limits and have tremendous breakthroughs in not just workouts but your overall well being. Every member of the gym gives each other support and motivation as well as friendly competition that allows you to be the best all around athlete and individual that you can be. This gym is for every one and no one will ever judge you on your abilities. Chris demands 110% at all times and knows how to get it out of you. This is the crossfit gym for you. So get off the couch and GET AFTER IT!
I plateaued at the gym working out by myself and Crossfit 619 empowered to do better everytime. I've been going there for 2 months now and every single class still surprises me. The trainers there genuinely cares for you to improve. Chris can be a hard on us sometime, but I take it as an encouragement or reminder that we are slacking or not giving our best. The Saturday class at the Convention Center is a killer too! Never pushed myself so hard and man it feels good everytime after Crossfit 619!
I got lucky when I decided to give Crossfit 619 a try. I wanted something different from the mundane workouts that had caused me to plateau in my strength and quickness, and Crossfit 619 certainly delivered. From the moment I walked in it was a very positive atmosphere and the facility is great. Chris is an excellent trainer and basically a walking encyclopedia when it comes to working out, with endless amounts to teach if you are willing to put in the work and learn. He will kick up the intensity at times, but any real athlete knows that is just passion for what he does and the desire to help everyone better themselves. At 619 I've always been pushed to my max while still emphasizing form and safety in every drill. The other athletes that work out at 619 and the overall positive vibe that starts with Chris is the reason that I never hit the snooze button when my alarm goes off at 5am to get to the gym. Can't say enough how highly I think of 619 and will be going there for as long as I live in San Diego.
I was very impressed with CrossFit 619 because Chris really took the time to help me improve my form. He is devoted to creating a environment that is conducive to overall fitness. I give it 2 thumbs up.
