San Diego Musical Theatre “Cuts Loose” with “FOOTLOOSE”
September 28-October 14 at The Birch North Park Theatre
Need a fun night out at the theatre for the entire family? Award-winning “San Diego Musical Theatre” (SDMT) invites you to “CUT LOOSE” with the high-spirited musical “Footloose”, directed and choreographed by Robert Marra with musical direction by Don LeMaster at the Birch North Park Theatre, September 28-October 14, 2012! Friday, September 28 is a preview performance, Saturday, September 29 is the official Opening/Media Night performance. “Footloose” runs until Sunday October 14.
“Footloose” is based on the 1984 popular Oscar-winning film that made Kevin Bacon a star. Enter Ren, a lively hipster teen from Chicago who moves with his Mom to “Bomont” a strict rural sleepy farming community where dancing and rock music is banned. Ren’s smitten with the preacher’s daughter Ariel but has to challenge and ultimately convince her stern Preacher father that dancing and having fun isn’t a crime!
A heartfelt story with themes of young love, challenging authority, the father-son bond, and the wisdom of listening to youth with warm hearts and an open mind.
“Based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford, “Footloose” was adapted for the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. The show's music was written by Tom Snow with lyrics by Dean Pitchford. Additional music for “Footloose” was written by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman.
“Footloose” ran on Broadway garnering 4 Tony Awards and features several ‘80’s classic songs “Let’s Hear it For The Boy”, “Almost Paradise”, “Holding Out for a Hero”, “I’m Free” and of course the title blockbuster “Footloose”.
2012 Performances: September, 28, 29, October 5, 6, 12 & 13 at 8 p.m.; September 30, October 6, 7 & 14 at 2 p.m. and October 4 & 11 at 7:30 p.m. Prices range from $26-$52.
Tickets: Discounts available for seniors (65+), active military, and students.
