As part of our ongoing mission to save the San Diego River and its surrounding habitat, volunteers are needed to help remove trash and debris from the riverbed in the Mission Valley Preserve near the YMCA on Friars Rd. With the help of thousands of volunteers over the passed 8 years, we have removed over 1,000,000lbs of garbage from the river. Our goal is to have the entire river, one of the most polluted in the nation, cleaned up within a year and we need your help. The San Diego River is a very important waterway from both an historic and ecological standpoint, home to many rare and endangered plants and animals. Help us to restore our river and provide a clean and healthy habitat for the native plants and wildlife that call the river home. No experience necessary, all tools and supplies provided. Community service hours can be verified for those that need them. Participants are asked to wear sturdy clothing that can get a little dirty and also wear closed shoes. Hat and sunscreen are recommended. Groups and people of all ages are welcomed to help.
