The first annual "Jump Start Your Heart 5k Walk & Race" will take place on Mission Bay, Saturday, Feb 11th 2012 starting at 9am. This event is being fully supported and sponsored by The Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF) and all event proceeds (100%) will be donated toward research to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of congenital heart defects.

This one-of-a-kind 5k run/walk takes place along the beach of San Diego's beautiful Mission Bay. Participants may partake in optional challenging fitness stations which will be set-up in the sand along the 5k course. Every participant will receive a custom t-shirt, jump rope and pair of custom socks. Rubicon Deli will also provide a light lunch. The start of the race will be Crown Point Shores Park at 1759 Moorland Dr San Diego Ca 92109 and there will be free parking. The race will conclude at Santa Clara Point at 1010 Santa Clara Place San Diego Ca 92109. Free bus transportation back to the starting line will be provided.

This incredible fundraising event is helping to raise awareness and bring health, hope and happiness to children and families impacted by congenital heart defects. Most people are unaware that Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) are the most common birth defect in America, affecting approximately one in one hundred, or 40,000 newborns each year. CHDs are responsible for one third of all birth defect-related deaths and sadly 20 percent of children who make it through birth will not survive past their first birthday. Although a child is born every 15 minutes with a CHD, research continues to be grossly under-funded in America.
