Culture and Cocktails American Artists From Russian Empire

Event Details:
Event Description:
The San Diego Museum of Art invites guests to explore it's exhibition, American Artists from the Russian Empire as the DJ spins and exotic beverages flow at this edition of Culture & Cocktails, sponsored by Firestarter Vodka, O.N.E. Water and DiscoverSD.com. American Artists from the Russian Empire presents the work of artists who came from Russia to the United States just before or immediately after World War II. The exhibition explores ethnic origins of many of the most well-known artists working in America in the postwar period, among them Louise Nevelson, Jules Olitsky, Mark Rothko, and Ben Shahn, and, through the exhibition of their work, attests to the contributions these emigrants made to the enrichment of American culture.

Make your mark and paint your own refrigerator magnet inspired by Mark Rothko's No. 7 (orange and chocolate), or wear your thoughts on your sleeve in our collage nametag activity in which you can combine text and images to create a wearable work of art.
