On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 2, 3, & 4, 2012, the San Diego District of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) is offering “Thirty Minutes for Thirty Dollar” design consultations to the public. These consultations, along with an offering of beautiful, custom-designed garden planters are featured activities at the Spring Home Garden Show at the San Diego County Fair Grounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, CA.

“This is APLD’s 3rd time participating in a Home Garden Show and our second time doing 30-minute consultations,” says San Diego APLD president Amelia Lima of Amelia B. Lima and Associates. At last year’s Fall Home Garden Show, the design consultations were a big hit with homeowners, according to Lima, “A lot of people think, ‘Oh, I can do my garden myself, I don’t need a designer’ and some people can, but not many. Sometimes, just 30 minutes with a professional designer can save a home gardener years of struggle trying to get on the right track.”

Design consultations will be held from open to close each day, and offered on a first come, first serve basis, so Lima encourages people to sign up as soon as they arrive at the show. That should be easy since APLD’s display area flanks the show’s entrance and includes planted containers created by area designers and offered for sale.

Garden owners are encouraged to think about their design goals ahead of time so they arrive prepared. Lima suggests bringing a sketch of their existing garden, photos of the garden, photos of plants they like, of gardens they like, and any other images or items to help get the most out of the designers’ time. She also reminds people to be prepared to pay with cash or with a check made out to APLD.

Spring Home Garden Show hours are:
Friday March 2, 2012, 11 am to 6 pm
Saturday, March 3, 10 am to 6 pm
Sunday March 4, 10 am to 5 pm
