Located immediately north of Escondido is the one-time all-rural area of Valley Center. Although it is now more of a growing suburban "bedroom" community, there are still many areas preserved for its natural rural beauty. The community holds an annual Western Days event that celebrates ancient western days. Traditionally an area of agricultural growth, Valley Center still contains many strong farms such as Lavender Fields.
