Known for its liberal hippie culture, the Ocean Beach community loves dogs, and is wary of big business. Locals have routinely protested against the opening of Starbucks, and other fast food stores. In lieu of corporate establishments, Ocean Beach’s dog beach offers the opportunity to spend a lazy day with your German Shepherd, while eccentric antique stores and surf shops on the main street, Newport Avenue, are available to peruse with your two-legged friends.
