Editorial Review of
Cleveland National Forest
President Theodore Roosevelt gave the Cleveland National Forest its start in 1908. Before that it was home to the coastal and desert Indian tribes of the Kumeyaay, Luisenos, Cahuilla and Cupeno who first began the trail through out the parks. Now it covers the area just east of Alpine and hugs the 8E form the North and South. There are exhibits on the native people and archeology at the Laguna Mountain Visitor Information Office. While at the park visitors can bicycle, camp, climb, fish, hike, go horseback riding, hunting, nature viewing, OVH riding, picnicking, do water activities and even winter sports. In the Laguna Mountain Recreation Area visitors can travel from the dessert to a mountain top conifer forest through beautiful meadows. Kids and adults alike greatly enjoy the Palomar Mountain and Observatory where they can hike up to the observatory and camp at night. Whether you love bird watching or wildflowers Cleveland National Forest is an awesome place to visit mother nature at its best.
