California Wolf Center
Mexican wolves once freely roamed the southwestern United States, but government-sponsored eradication programs almost wiped out this subspecies of North American gray wolves entirely. The California Wolf Center is an education, conservation, and research center located 50 miles east of San Diego near the town of Julian, California. Founded in 1977, to educate the public about wildlife and ecology, the Center is currently home to several packs of Mexican gray wolves and a pack of Alaskan wolves, some of which are exhibited for educational purposes. Enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity to see up close the origins of man?s best friend and the special culture of this dynamic species not too dissimilar from our own human culture. The California Wolf Center is exciting, educational and beneficial in keeping this breed alive and flourishing as we put our past ignorance aside and embrace the beauty of these majestic creatures.
