Listing Details: The William D. Cannon Art Gallery was founded in 1999 under the mission to promote, interpret and present to the community the art of emerging, mid-career and established artists in Southern California in addition to showcasing the cultural creativity and art from other parts of the world. Painting, sculpture, photography, print-making, mixed-media, folk art, design and installation works are all curatorial foci of this gallery. Its current exhibition, “Portraits from the Golden Age of Jazz: Photographs by William P. Gottlieb” runs from July 11- Aug. 29, 2010, and pays tribute to some of Jazz’s most influential artists. As columnist and editor in the 1930s and 1940s, William Gottlieb, photographed the contemporary jazz scene to illustrate his columns in publications like The Washington Post and Down Beat magazine. In addition to his photographs, some popular contemporary photographs from the TGIF concerts by notable photographers Michael Craft, Jennifer Gowen, Kevin Mudd, Peter Nagainis, Tim Tadder and Sam Wells are also being featured.
