The marsh is surrounded by a variety of plentiful gardens, overlooked by the spacious nature center. This area can be self navigated or through the help of a guide, who can take you through a variety of nature walks, bird walks, shark and manta ray exhibits, and several other interesting interactive exhibitions perfect for visitors of any age. Visiting Sweetwater Marsh comes with the rare opportunity to experience one of the few areas in San Diego where nature is perfectly preserved, literally untouched by modern society. Guests will learn about the intricacies of marsh life and the animals that call the area home, through the educational programs and the ability to view a variety of aviaries that house birds that cannot be released back into the wild. Sweetwater Marsh is also the perfect destination for a grade level field trip, with several planned activities and tour guides trained specifically in handling the youngsters.
